To celebrate the International One Health day, we are delighted to invite you to this free, public evening event that will take place at the Royal Veterinary College in Camden, London.

Resistance to antimicrobials is currently one of the most important concerns worldwide. It was estimated that globally approximately 700,000 people die each year because of bacterial infections resistant to antibiotics, and this figure could rise to 10 million in 2050 (O’Neill report, 2016). Furthermore, resistance to antimicrobials generates important animal welfare concerns and economic losses to farmers and the food industry.

Combating antimicrobial resistance requires a One Health approach that includes medics, veterinarians, economists, and social scientists, among others. For this reason, we have gathered a series of experts from different disciplines to present existing One Health approaches and perspectives to combat this problem.

The presentations from the panel speakers will illustrate the importance of One Health approaches in antimicrobial usage and resistance. The event will conclude with a drinks reception, to promote interactions with people working and interested in AMR and One Health.

Panel Details:

The panel is chaired by Dr. Sian Clarke (LSHTM). The speakers and their presentation titles are:

  • Professor Richard Kock, RVC “AMR where does it come from and where is it going – an ecological (One Health) perspective”
  • Dr Catherine Ludden, LSHTM “One Health genomic surveillance of Escherichia coli from livestock, meat and humans”
  • Gwyn Jones, RUMA “Reporting, monitoring & reducing antibiotic use in farm animals”
  • Peter Plate, RVC “Advances in refining and reducing antimicrobial usage in dairy farms”
